U10 Soccer Drills

U10 is where technique meets decisions. Every drill below has a repeatable coaching point and a progression that pushes the player toward a match moment — not just another rep.

Session length: 60–75 minutes. Warm-up · 2 technical drills · 1 game-based drill · 4v4 game.

Drill 01

Half-Turn Receiving Gates

Set-up
Passer, receiver, and target player in a line 8m apart. Receiver has a defender behind them.
Focus
Scanning before the ball arrives, receiving on the back foot, playing forward first time.
Coaching points
Two looks over your shoulder before the ball arrives. Open your hips so your first touch already faces the target.
Progression
Add a live defender who can press. Receiver must escape and switch play in three touches.

Drill 02

Turn & Go

Set-up
10×10m box. Player receives from a server on one side, turns, and dribbles through a gate on the opposite side.
Focus
Turning technique (Cruyff, drag-back, pull-push), scanning, decision-making.
Coaching points
Decide the turn before you touch the ball. Explode out of the turn — two quick touches into space.
Progression
Add a defender behind the receiver who reacts on the pass. Multiple gates to choose from.

Drill 03

1v1 with Recovery Defender

Set-up
20×15m channel. Attacker starts with the ball, defender starts 2m behind chasing to recover.
Focus
Attacking bravery, speed with the ball, finishing before the recovery arrives.
Coaching points
Big touches into space when you're clear, small touches when the defender's close.
Progression
Reduce the head-start. Add a second defender coming from a wide angle.

Drill 04

4v4+2 Positional Rondo

Set-up
18×12m grid. 4v4 in the middle, 2 neutral players on the sidelines who play with whichever team has the ball.
Focus
Keeping possession under pressure, using width, third-man runs.
Coaching points
The neutral is always your out-ball. Don't stand still after you pass — move to a new angle.
Progression
Add a target rule: 6 passes = 1 point. Score by playing through both neutrals.

Drill 05

Combination Play to Finish

Set-up
Half a small pitch. Two attackers combine — wall pass, overlap, or third-man run — then finish at a goal with keeper.
Focus
Timing of runs, weight of pass, decisive finishing.
Coaching points
Communicate before the pass. Wall pass first-time, don't kill the momentum. Finish across the keeper.
Progression
Add a defender who tries to intercept. Add a second wave of defenders after the first combination.

Drill 06

4v4 Directional Game

Set-up
25×20m pitch with a small goal at each end. Two 4-minute halves.
Focus
Applying the drills of the session in a match-realistic game.
Coaching points
Play the way you're facing when pressed. Look for the third man. Defend as a unit — don't dive in.
Progression
Add offside. Add a rule: goals only count from a first-time finish or after a combination.
